How to claim the MoneroV forked coins (XMV) + FAQ

Now that the snapshot, taken at block height #1564965, is behind us, and the MoneroV Mainnet was released, this is how you can claim your MoneroV (XMV) coins.

1. Determine, where you kept your moneros (XMR) at snapshot

How you will receive, or claim, your MoneroV coins (XMV) will depend on where you kept your moneros (XMR) at the time of snapshot: on any of the supporting exchanges, in Monero’s official GUI or CLI desktop wallet, or in a web/cloud-based wallet, e.g. MyMonero.

A. You kept your XMR in a supporting exchange

By the time of snapshot, a total of 7 crypto-exchanges have publicly pledged support for MoneroV fork. These include HitBTC (top-tier exchange in terms of average daily XMR trading volume), CoinEx, Coinroom, BTC-alpha, Octaex, Ovis and Crex24.

If you kept your XMR in either of these exchanges, no further action is required on your side. Each exchange will in due course, and according to their own schedule, credit you with your MoneroV coins at the rate of 10 XMV per XMR, including fractions thereof.

NB. MoneroV team has no influence or say over the timetable and timeliness of both crediting and listing of XMV on any of the supporting exchanges. We appreciate their support and their vote of confidence for MoneroV team and project hitherto.

B. You kept your XMR in a private wallet

If you followed the recommendation and kept your XMR in Monero’s official GUI or CLI desktop wallet, you will need to prepare either the 25-word long mnemonic seed or your wallet’s public address, private view key and private spend key. You can locate all of the above in your wallet under ‘Settings’ > ‘Show seed & keys’. If you are an advanced user, you can also use .keys file.

NB. If you opted to keep your XMR in a cold wallet, such as www.moneroaddress.org, the above applies to you as well.

C. You kept your XMR in a web wallet like MyMonero

Those who kept their XMR in a web/cloud-based wallet like MyMonero instead, will have to use their wallet’s public address, private view key and private spend key. In MyMonero, these can be found in the ‘Account’ drop-down menu in the top right corner under ‘Account Details’.

NB. The same applies to users of any wallet that doesn’t provide a 25-word long mnemonic seed.

Note — You can empty your XMR out of the ‘snapshot’ wallet before claiming XMV

The MoneroV team has and always will promote best practices to preserve and protect your crypto-assets. As a safety precaution, it is recommended to move your XMR from the ‘snapshot’ wallet into a new wallet, which only you hold the keys of, before proceeding to claim your XMV. Moving your XMR to a new wallet post-snapshot will not in any way affect your right to claim MoneroV coins.

Remember: you will claim your XMV using the credentials of the XMR wallet in which you kept your XMR at the time of snapshot (the so-called ‘snapshot’ wallet), and not the wallet you hold your XMR at the time of claiming your MoneroV coins.

This is to prevent the possibility that you might have downloaded a ‘fake;, or a phishing wallet.

3. Claim your MoneroV coins (XMV)

Download MoneroV’s official GUI desktop wallet from www.monerov.org. To avoid falling prey of phishing attempts or having your privacy compromised in any way, ONLY TRUST the wallet you will find on www.monerov.org.

You will notice that MoneroV’s official GUI desktop wallet is quite similar to Monero’s desktop wallet. If you have used that for your Monero wallet, you are likely already familiar with the following steps.

After downloading the wallet and launching it, you will be presented with three options to choose from. Choose the second option, i.e. ’Restore wallet from keys or mnemonic seed’. Advanced users, who are familiar with the .keys file, may choose to ’Open a wallet from file’ and take that route.

Avoid connecting to remote nodes or XMR nodes in order to fully sync with the MoneroV network and be credited with the new XMV coins

This guide assumes these users are well-enough versed with the desktop wallet to be able to proceed on their own.

Assuming you have chosen the second option in the previous screen, you will be first prompted to enter your new MoneroV wallet’s name and storage location. This is also where you will enter your Monero wallet’s credentials. You can choose to restore wallet from the mnemonic seed or from a set of keys. Choose ’Restore from seed’ only if you have a 25-word long mnemonic seed at your disposal. Otherwise, choose ’Restore from keys’. Fill in all the non-optional field(s) and proceed to the next screen.

If you have opted to use the mnemonic seed, you are free to enter only the first three letters of each seed word as a time-saving measure.

Enter a strong password in the next screen.

Leave daemon settings unchanged. As remote nodes are not yet available for MoneroV network, this means you should keep the recommended ’Start a node automatically in the background’ option checked and proceed to the final screen.

Review your settings. Make sure you are connected to mainnet and click ’Use MoneroV’ in the bottom right corner of the screen to access the wallet.

Once your wallet will fully synchronize with MoneroV’s network, your balance will show your XMV balance, which is exactly 10 times the XMR balance you held at the time of snapshot.

Be sure to fully synchronize locally, and that the recent block is identical to the latest block on www.monerovexplorer.com.

FAQ and Troubleshooting

Most issues you will encounter are easy to solve and most often will occur if you have connected to a remote node, the xmr (not xmv) network, you are not fully synced with the network until the latest block, or your AntiVirus is running a false positive as the wallet is also a miner.

Q: I am seeing 1:1 ratio of XMV:XMR instead of the promised 10:1, why?

A: You need to be fully synced with the XMV blockchain to show the correct amount of XMV you are credited with. Please check if you are fully synced until the latest block as a local node. Close the wallet from ‘Settings’ tab and re-launch it, try to ’Rescan Balanace’ from the Settings tab If problem persists.

Q: Why is my AntiVirus is flagging the software as a miner?

A: Windows defender and other AV software might detect the miner software as a threat due to a false negative. This can happen with any core blockchain software. You can disable your AV at this time or add the MoneroV folder as an exception to your antivirus.

Q: I’m not able to connect with the blockchain, is the network down?

A: MoneroV is a decentralized, peer to peer project. Avoiding centralized servers means somewhat of a slow beginning, but a robust P2P network that grows for years to come. Please be patient when synchronizing to the network, it will catch up soon.

Advanced users can sync with Monero right up to a few blocks before the Snapshot height

Q: I am seeing 0 XMV after claiming from my seed?

A: You need to be fully synced with the XMV blockchain to show the correct amount of XMV you are credited with. Please check if you are fully synced until the latest block as a local node.

Q: How can I mine XMV?

A:You can solo mine or join a pool that supports CryptoNoteV7 mining. See the full mining guide here.
