As we prepare to descend fully into Sad Girl Fall with the release of Red (Taylor’s Version) at the end of this week, it felt like the perfect time to deliver a PSA:

Red is the best album in Taylor Swift’s discography and I am fully prepared to die on this hill.

Controversial? Maybe. But as a Red stan since 2012, I came prepared to state my case.

I will admit, right off the bat, that this album has sentimental value for me. My family moved to Florida from New York in July 2012 and my boyfriend at the time cheated on and broke up with me only a month and a half later. I was trying to adjust to my new life while simultaneously struggling to heal my broken heart. I needed a soundtrack for my life — and Taylor Swift delivered.

I followed the release of Red from the Google Hangout announcement on August 13, 2012 to the day it dropped on October 22, 2012. I didn’t know that ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ would be my anthem of the season when I heard it for the first time on August 13…and then I got broken up with shortly after it came out and I listened to it on repeat. I didn’t know how to put into words the feeling of starting over and putting yourself back out there…and then I heard ‘Begin Again.’
