The most accurate estimates indicate that an American consumer wastes one pound (450 g) of food per day. This translates to an annual consumption of 164.25 kg of food per person. Obviously, this is not a very encouraging statistic, but in this post, we’ll look at several prevention techniques. To put it another way, I’ll describe how to reduce food waste at home. Taking care, being flexible, and planning ahead will help you make the most of your meals.

Meal preparation

Making a list of your meals for the week will allow you to arrange your shopping accordingly. Food waste is far less likely if you simply purchase what you need.

The components you require in modest amounts for your recipes are one aspect you will need to consider. Ideally, prepare a number of recipes that will use the questioned component, particularly if it is a perishable item.

Pay close attention to the use-by dates

When you go shopping, it is crucial to consider the expiry date of each item to determine how long you will need to eat it. Selecting a product that is close to expire may prevent it from going to waste at the store if you are certain you will utilize it right away. In any other case, selecting items with a longer expiry date is preferable.
