get people reflect in a weird experience
multitasking, distraction —
infromation overload. designed distraction (system).
tragedy of the commons —
moder technology — everyone wants your attention,
attention economy. attention=profit
pre-modern religion and culture — discipline, engage— focus on how and where human has attention on.
budhism/ hinduism — grounded in the moment
yoga, meditation, zen, garden — make time to reflect, slowing down, focusing the attention, understanding, enlightment
slowing down (eastern?) vs speeding up time (modernity)
Philosopher_Paul Rilio — talk about speed
Stuart Brand — talk about pace
create new normal
problem — speed
world — techno, awareness and body are immersed in the music
carefully designed experience
take you outside of yourself (awareness)and time
— awareness flowing
— traditional south north Indian classical music.
— temporary focus, not distracted
technology — speed up transformation
mass vs individual ritual
— individual thing
— mass public ritual
— energy and emotion replace time
— rave — music, then personal effect

— awareness flowing
ex)headspace, mindfulness room
how do I show the world building?
Context — understand the problem, what i want you to reflect on, its a comment on this in today’s society
get them to question
how do you set up the world?
how well have to done the take away bit? (ppl need to take away something, reflect)
whats the goal for ppl to reflect?
Speed and Slowness: Dromology and Technical Images
Associate Professor, VSB-Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic *Corresponding Author: Dr. Thomas Hauer…
“Virilio quotes Michelangelo: “They paint in Flanders to fool our external vision… the beguilements of the world have robbed me of the time accorded me to worship God””
“Aesthetics of disappearing changes time into sequential and information blurs. It often happens that we are absent-mindedly “staring” into space. We call it blank moments or momentary escape of mind from the current “reality”.”
““put together so that the world could be grasped, imagined, understood again the consciousness could become consciousness of itself again” is the subject of formation into technical images. “The world in which they find themselves can no longer be counted and explained: it has disintegrated into particles-photons, quanta, electromagnetic particles. It has become intangible, inconceivable, incomprehensible, a mass that can be calculated. Even their own consciousness, their thoughts, desires, and values, have disintegrated into particles, into bits of information, a mass that can be calculated” . And this is what technical images are used for — putting reality together again. Our new arrangement of the world, new after the end of the age of linear writing, depends on two things — on apparatuses and on their programmes.”
— technical images become a dominant cognitive metaphor of the contemporary society
— impact of speed on the contemporary world
— “unconscious dissappearing of objects from our field of perception”
Rainer Maria Rilke
“what happens is so far ahead of what we think, of our intentions, that we can never catch up with it and never really know its true appearance”. Thus the speed becomes the core of aesthetics of disappearing.”
“not bizarre but ordinary things are gathered and transformed in such a way that we’re made to think that there’s something else of an unfamiliar nature that appears at the same time as familiar things”

How to experience speed through visual?
emptiness, void, unconscious disappearing of objects, perception, speed, awareness flow
take you outside of your awareness and time
energy and emotion replace time
things are so normal that we dont look at them,
“only dominant cultures that exile us from ourselves and others, a loss of meaning which is for us not only siesta of consciousness but also a decline in existence”
familiar things that are gathered and transformed
there’s something else of an unfamiliar nature that appears at the same time as familiar things.
“…”Nature” is not to be understood as that which is just present-at-hand, nor as the power of Nature. The wood is a forest of timber, the mountain a quarry of rock; the river is water-power, the wind is wind ‘in the sails’. As the ‘environment’ is discovered, the ‘Nature’ thus discovered is encountered too. If its kind of Being as ready-to-hand is disregarded, this ‘Nature’ itself can be discovered and defined simply in its pure presence-at-hand. But when this happens, the Nature which ‘stirs and strives’, which assails us and enthralls us as landscape, remains hidden. The botanist’s plants are not the flowers of the hedgerow; the ‘source’ which the geographer establishes for a river is not the ‘springhead in the dale’.”
― Martin Heidegger, Being and Time
“but then we noticed that it worked a lot better if you stared right at the damn thing”)
Equipment in action operates in an inconspicuous usefulness, doing its work without our noticing it. When the tool fails, its unobtrusive quality is ruined. There occurs a jarring of reference, so that the tool becomes visible as what it is:” — Graham Harman
tool in action, tool in disrepair
ontology (“study of being”) combines onto- (Gr. ὄν, on, gen. ὄντος, ontos, “being; that which is”) and -logia (Gr. -λογία, “logical discourse”)
1 Speed: Quickness in moving or making progress from one place to another, usually as the result of special exertion; celerity, swiftness; also, power or rate of progress.
2 Being:To have place in the objective universe or realm of fact, to exist; to exist independently of other beings.
3 Void:To clear of occupants; to empty or clear of something.
- Oxford English Dictionary
“The reconciliation of nothing and reality and the suspension of time and space by high velocities replace the exoticism of journeys with a vast expanse of emptiness.”

“they are always familiar things, not bizarre but
are gathered and transformed in such a way that we’re made to think that there’s something else of an unfamiliar nature that appears at the same time as familiar things.”- Rene Magritte
“To look at what you wouldn’t look at, to hear what you wouldn’t listen to, to be attentive to the banal, to the ordinary, to the infra-ordinary. To deny the ideal hierarchy of the crucial and the incidental, because there is no incidental, only dominant cultures that exile us from ourselves and others, a loss of meaning which is for us not only

Final Project (Zine)
Information technology speeds up the way people live and think. In order to attract people’s attention within the excessive informations presented, attention economy is formed. Essentially, media practitioners compete for the attention of otherwise fulfilled audiences.
Living in a designed distraction system, people are hindered to be at one moment at a time. In effect, opportunities to experience transporting awareness and time becomes valuable.
When do you experience time replaced by energy and emotions? How does your value influence your perception of the world? What does it mean to state in a void mind?
