You should seriously consider getting one

Picture this — You are living the life of your dreams. You have crossed 9 out of 10 things from your bucket list and you are at a place where you can proudly boast of your past victories.

Now picture yourself stuck in the same scene for the next few years, living the life of your dreams, crossed 9 out of 10 things from your bucket list and at place where you can proudly boast of your past victories.

Your life is basically stuck in repeat where you are constantly telling yourself you are invincible and you are okay to be stuck there for as long as you want. When you don’t see yourself growing from the person that you were before, you are basically a non living creature on planet earth.

Don’t get me wrong here, I’ve studied my facts long and well to say that life in its very existence should show evidence of growth to prove that it is alive.

A sturdy trash can does not grow, nor does a painting on the wall. A tree grows, a fish grows, a butterfly grows and a human grows. All growth indicates evidence of life. If you find yourself stuck in a place where you don’t visualize your life growing, you should seriously re-evaluate options to find yourself a better place that inspires you to grow. Every time I find myself stuck in places where I’m dipping in my pool of victories and enjoying the waters a little longer than usual, I have my own personal brand of critics come to my rescue reminding me that even at my ultimate best, I still have a lot room for betterment.

A Personal Critic is an honest person. He/she does not take pleasure in sugar coating your victories but cuts to chase reminding you where exactly you could have done better or what you should be rather doing instead.

A Personal Critic can also be your childhood journal where you wrote about owning a condo by the beach when you grew up and forgot about all it.

Personal Critics put perspective back into your life and help you see the bigger picture. Personal’s critics are brutal and this brutality is what will drive your growth. If you find yourself around personal critics who make you shrink, stay away from them. They are not your brand. Minus them from your zone. Find yourself critics that inspire you to do better and call them your own personal Brand of Critics.

Allow yourself to be critiqued and critiqued often by your own personal Brand of Critics. Ask them for feedback, ask them for reviews, ask them for suggestions and wait as they rip the skin of your bones and tell you — ‘You can still do much better than this’.

Greatest writers like Maya Angelou and Shakespeare also struggled with personal critics and yet they created write some of the world’s best literary work because they made the criticism work for them. Make your personal brand of critics work for you.

In the words of Buddha —

“Should you find a wise critic to point out your faults, follow him as you would a guide to hidden treasure”
