Take a Deep Breathe, Realize You Can’t Change What Happened.
But you can change how you react to it…
Words that have never snapped me back into reality so fast.
You know that part in a movie where you see them zone in on a writer sitting in front of their computer or typewriter? You know they have been there for what feels like (to them) an eternity, only to be as far as the title? That was me this morning, only I didn’t even make it as far as the title.
We are all faced with challenges in our lives, some seem bigger or more difficult than others. And in retrospect, some ARE. Think about it. My teenage daughter was promised a new phone a few months ago, it’s still not here. A friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer. Can I honestly even compare the two? While my daughter may ‘think’ that not having her phone is the end of the world, I can’t put them on the same level. A business executive has a major deadline which may cost them their job, your car breaks down and now needs high $$ repairs..
The point is, no matter what the situation; we all have challenges in our lives that we must overcome. Even if others see them as small and “not that big of a deal”, in the moment they may feel like the worst possible situation. It is how we handle what is in front of us. We can do one of two things.
1) Run, hide, yell, scream, cry, blame others, you get the point.
2) Rise to the challenge of overcoming whatever it is that was just thrown at us.
Today I am choosing the latter.
I’d like to think that my work with No Kid Hungry is well known, the truth is it’s not….yet. Given the fact that began my adventure in early January, we are not even 60 days in. My lack of patience gets the better of me as I expect (more from myself than anything) to achieve world changing results, immediately.
In one month I went from a ‘nobody’ (I use that term very loosly), to building a website, then a final and better website. I re-activated a dormant Twitter account, built up a Facebook page, and set on a journey to make the biggest humanitarian movement ever. 3 interviews done, 9 nominations.
Another 4 interviews done, 12 nominations in total; with 4 accepting so far. Not bad if I do say so myself. March started off with a high profile interview, and another 3 nominations.
What does this all mean? For those of you who have NO idea what I am talking about, THIS is what all these nominations are about. With all that are in the works, and all those that have agreed to interview; our current grand total 31 interviews. That will be $3,100 for No Kid Hungry. I should also mention that $3,100 is a total of 30,100 MEALS for children! Thirty THOUSAND meals……
So why the need for the title, “Take a Deep Breathe, Realize You Can’t Change What Happened.”? If you have been paying attention, or following along with me at any time since the beginning..
You know that I stated, I already had silent donors who would donate the said $100/interview. Which is why I never asked those being interviewed to donate anything. Some of the funds have already been appropriately donated into the account, I still have to put more in. However this morning I have had a very unfortunate setback.
It is with deep saddness that I announce, two of my supporters are no longer able to continue with this project. Before my supporters and followers lash out, I would like you to understand that when I started this there was no large company support. These donors were friends and others I contacted, who believed and still do believe in, what I am trying to do. However they admit that they underestimated my capabilities, and as such are not able to continue helping fund this project. Many of you are probably asking what this means for the End Hunger Challenge.
Let me assure you that while we are not even SIXTY DAYS in, this is far from over! If I personally have to pick up a part time job just to fund this project myself, I will do it. I will do it because I know in my heart that I am doing what I can to make the world a better place for my children, and children everywhere. However, with the fact that each interviewee nominates three people; that could rather spendy. I am asking for your help.
I am NOT asking you to personally donate (unless you wish). I am simply asking, that if you have at all been following this project and understand my mission, if you believe in what I am trying to do; that you will share this with EVERYONE in all of your social media sources (Twitter, Facebook, Google+). It is my hope that someone will pick up on this eventually. Someone, or a few people if I’m lucky; who can help me pick up where we left off. In the meantime I will make sure that funding IS put into the account for all interviews that have been posted.
Take a deep breath and move forward. I appreciate each and every one of you. Please remember that I do not do this for myself. I live, breathe, eat, and sleep, to change the world.
