Dear Hillary and Bernie,
I watched the commercial with Eric Garners daughter telling her life after her fathers murder on the streets of NYC at the hands of a police officer. Since the death of Mike Brown it has been a sceen that is hilighted in the media over and over again. It raises fears and consciousness which is the yin and the yang of it all. It had excavated people’s truth in profound ways and began an American Revolution. Personally it re activated my activism and unlocked generational pain.
As I watch and observe this political process of how you are engaging voters I really went into deep thought and after watching that video all I can say is STOP pimping our pain for votes.
The stats say that it will be black women that will decide the next president. That is a powerful position. And because you all have studied us in this test tube labeled black life, you know exactly how to trigger emotion that makes us believe that you empathize with our pain and plight. But neither of you have put forth a bill to end any of the issues that effect us… Yet you continue to pimp our pain. You embrace young activist who are brilliant but are wanting to be heard. This video that Senator Sanders put out is public relations 101. Feed people’s hopes or Feed their fears.
As someone who studied and taught branding and. public relations when I was in the music industry for 10 years I learned the game of it all. And so do the people the politicians hire to build their campaigns. But for Bernie to use the center of our multi generational pain I wonder is he any different than Trump? Who feeds into the fear of white folks in America? Is Hillary revoltionary when she does not directly speak to the bill that’s her husband signed that began mass incarnation. Do either of them speak on ending the war on drugs that devastated our urban communities??? Or how to rebuild them? What about the things that plague the consistent marginalization of black women daily.
All I’m saying is don’t let the tactics of public relations determine how you vote. Just because someone regurgitates your fears does not mean that anything will be done about it. Or it may,, hmmm not. The real revolt is to Think! Dis engage and really think. That what all of these folks don’t want us to do that is why they keep us steeped in emotion. Thinking is the revolution!! Knowing our real power is the revolution. Not being distracted and derailed with politics and performances is the real revolution. Be a revolutionary and think.
Good Morning.
