I agree with this statement 100%. This is exactly the reason for community-based participatory research (CBPR) & subsequent policy. We must demand that our institutions use our suggestions, as the primary stakeholders. I do not feel anyone should be pressured or compelled to support a system that does not take our histories and our collective experience into account. The imbalance of power cannot be addressed without real community input AND oversight. Our voices matter, and there’s no program or system of care (schools, health, criminal justice) that can do their job without us. So let’s get in and participate. Let’s change our communities and our country for the better. And let us NOT REST until we find the candidate that will suit our needs.
