It’s a sensitive subject, but I found myself wondering why, during referendum campaign, Remain supporters from the government side were able to say things like “without immigration, the economy of this country would grind to a halt”, without anyone challenging them as to why exactly this should be so. If we are not able to e.g. train the number of doctors and nurses that we need, then why do we not take steps to remedy that?(yes, I know there is a lag time…we should have done this years ago), and all the way through the employment market. Unless this is (as I suspect) cover for saying: “the economy depends on being able to import cheap labour from abroad”. If it is, and that is what we consciously do, then I believe we are acting immorally.
