Infinite Lagrange or Infinite PayPig?
I started to play a game called Infinite Lagrange (http://www.infinitelagrange.com/) and before you go to try it, let me tell you a horror story.
I joined this game maybe 2 weeks ago. I levelled up very fast. Then I decided I was going to start buying in game currency, because I figured I had sampled the game long enough and it appeared to be OK for me to spend a reasonable amount on the game considering I’d spend lots of time in it.
I joined a Union in the game, which is basically a clan. In that union, I was given officer status, and even started to learn how to start rallies. I had been joining the rallies all along, and helping the Union take a whole handful of cities in the region.
We had some issues, with members being attacked, and so those members ordered revenge attacks to “even the field”. This seemed normal to me, considering it’s not only what I’d do, but the Union name was “ViceVersa” and the slogan “What goes around comes around” so it all seemed normal to me. Most of those attacks ended up being called off before they were complete, leaving me frustrated and confused about our Unions’ name and slogan. Do we revenge attacks or not?
I should also note that when I first joined, we were at war (in the middle of one) with a Union named “Freyja” which was started long before I even joined. I don’t even know why we were at war in the first place. But they took one of our cities by force shortly after I had joined. So there was rage towards that union from the start.
One of the cities we took over had some enemy outposts on it that needed destruction before we rallied against it to make it difficult for them to reclaim it once we owned it. I had organized the pre-rally operations, and decided to start a “CovertOps” group within the union to take care of these sorts of things right before the rallies. I also planned to use this group to organize the revenge attacks on players who had attacked us first. This group did not last long, I disbanded it once every revenge attack was called off as I figured half the point of the group is now gone.
I had not once ordered any player vs player attacks, I only was helping to try organizing them. The ones ordering those attacks were the members who were attacked themselves. Some of them being Officers as well. This is important for later in the story. Point is we hit a player base or two in revenge for attacks on members, and it was not me who called for the attacks, only tried to organize them.
After one of our attacks on the players who attacked our members, the one player we had attacked (NNB) went rogue, left his union (Freyja), and decided to start attacking us. So I decided to call everyone to task to go attack NNB, because he attacked and destroyed the other members mining platforms, he attacked and destroyed two critical outposts of my own, and then started to attack my base.
The Union SIC (Second In Command) was also attacked also by NNB, and before going to sleep, ordered an attack on NNB. So we started to organize attacks on the NNB who had relocated his base right next to mine in the asteroid belt so he could make attacks on me. Either way, the SIC had approved the attack and gone to sleep, and now it was everyone’s duty to try and perform the task given by our SIC.
Anyways long story short, the attacks failed because he was located in the asteroid belt and only certain ships could travel in there. As a lot of the members are newbies (myself included) we thought we could attack him. I was aware of that limitation, but I thought his base was right on the edge, and sometimes in games you can still attack from outside of that limitation (if they are on the edge) and that’s why I sent all my ships instead of Frigates and Destroyers only.
Before we could even get the revenge attack in , it was called off by SIC when he woke up. SIC started to flip out as if he never ordered the attacks himself. He proceeded to blame me for every revenge hit taken — even though he ordered one of them and the other members ordered the others. I will take responsibility partly (not fully) for ordering attack on NNB because I was attacked, and was advocating for revenge attacks on NNB. But the SIC had made the same orders before going to sleep.
Apparently the Union is supposed to give peace treaties to those who attack members (instead of revenge). The Union needs a new name and slogan. It does not fit.
When I woke up I saw SIC complaining about me being the problem in Union chat. So I said “If I am apparently the problem here, I will just leave. SIC take some responsibility for your orders.” and then I left the Union.
Now what was I to do? I had helped the Union own the entire Region on the server, now they own 100% of the cities… If I start a union, its me vs 48+ other players because the only way for my union to get anywhere would be to attack cities they own. The game is unplayable in this condition, and also solo, it almost requires the union otherwise you only attack computers.
At this point I should note I had spent about $300 on the game, and the night before leaving the union I had just purchased the largest coin package in game. I had not realized I spent that much until I totaled it all up.
Because the union basically owns the entire server I had no choice but to find a new one where the cities are still owned by the computer and not a union. I figured nothing was wrong with this, because it said it saves your blueprints and tech points, and I see no reason for them to steal currency you paid for. So I changed servers. When I changed servers, I had lost EVERYTHING.
All of my in game blueprints for ships gone. All of my tech points gone. All of my ship livery (paint designs, I owned one) gone. All of my chu-coins (currency I bought) gone. All of my Proxima (another currency, bought with chu-coins) gone. Everything was all gone and I was back at the beginning of the game.
What happened to the good old days where you spent $60-$180 on a game, and you owned that game and items you purchased for life along with software updates? Nowadays companies like Netease want to turn you into Infinite PayPigs to nickle and dime you for the rest of your life, constantly deleting your paid for items and forcing you to rebuy them.
I’ve said this game is nowhere near as bad as Diablo: Immortal, because I didn’t have to spend 500k to get where I was. But after now realizing you can spend infinite money on this game rebuying the same crap you should already own, I must take that back. It is WORSE than diablo, because at least in Diablo I assume you keep what you purchased (all the in game items and currency) although I don’t play Diablo, so I wouldn’t know.
So now I am forced to dispute all of the transactions with my credit company, because I no longer own the items I paid for. I am also going to submit fraud reports with the FTC and any other possible federal agencies. This is going to be reported as a scam and fraud, because it is.
Selling someone something and then deleting it just to force them to buy it all over again is fraud. Plain and simple. There is no technological or programmatical reason they cannot make the paid for items follow you from one server to the next (every single game out there does). The only reason they would refuse this is to force you to pay all over again.
I understand partly why the base level is reset to 0 and you have to upgrade from beginning again, but if that is the case you should not be able to spend REAL money on that because it is reset when you move servers or the server is reset. Because I was able to (and did) spend some of that real money on upgrades, I think I should get my entire base (along with upgrades) moved.
If they want to reset or delete it every time, then stop allowing people to spend money on it.
All in all this game is predatory, more so than Diablo, and at least Diablo is almost blatant about their greed.
I recommend not playing this game at all, because if you play it you will be encouraged over and over by the game to buy and spend real money on something they will just delete and force you to rebuy again. It is very predatory and best to just stay far away.
Is it “Infinite Lagrange” or “Infinite PayPig”?
