In a saner time, it would be an enjoyable argument. We are now in a time where the propositions that there is such a thing as a lie, that some statements are lies, is up for serious political debate.

As a philosophical position, proving those propositions might be interesting. As a political position, I have to go with a variation on Pascal’s Wager and insist (admittedly without absolute certainty) that those propositions are true. Because if they are, there are big, bad consquences for beleiving they are not, while if they are not, there is no consequence for believing they are.
