What is the Underground Coffee House all about ?

As a college student we live very busy lives, we’re always on the go and sometimes we need some time to ourselves or want something fun to do during the evening. With different activities to do during the week to comfy couches to relax in after a long day of classes, the Underground offers a very unique atmosphere for Western students and residents of Bellingham.

As a college freshmen and just starting to be away from home it can be very overwhelming at times. I had never really heard of the Underground at first until going there with one of my friends. When I first walked in I felt a sense of comfort. You smell the coffee brewing that creates a calming and familiar aroma. There were many people sitting around talking amongst themselves having a good time, I couldn’t help but notice two girls sitting in the corner laughing and both drinking a cup of coffee. I could hear the background music of the people listening to their music. Maybe it was the comfy couches or the people sitting around or it could’ve been Kim the supervisor who greeted me when I walked in and made me feel welcome like I belonged there,but I felt a little bit of home. We grabbed a spot next to the window and I fell in love with the amazing view from this little coffee house. The view from the Underground is my favorite part about sitting in their and drinking my cup of coffee.

The coffee and treats at the Underground are also my favorite. I love to come and get a white chocolate mocha or if I want to treat myself I’ll try go and grab a cinnamon rolls which is my personal favorite.I went into the Underground and asked Kim the supervisor and asked her what their most popular drink is and she told me that many people come to the Underground for their lavender london fogs.

One downside to the Underground is that it can be very crowded at times and can make it very hard to find a nice place to sit , which in my opinion can make things very overwhelming.

College isn’t all about studying everyone deserves a break from their studies and the Underground is a great place to take that break at. During the week they offer a wide variety of different events and you’re sure to find something that you’ll enjoy. I went onto the Associated Students of Western Washington’s Website and found all the events that they host during the week. On Monday they have trivia,jazz sessions and karaoke, open mic night on Tuesdays, concerts on Wednesday and sponsored club night on Thursday. What I really like about open mic night is it’s a chance to hear local talent and really get a feel of the different kind of music the residents of Bellingham bring to the unique Bellingham culture.It gives students of WWU a chance to show their talent to the rest of the students.There is just something about the Underground that you feel a sense of acceptance. Myself personally am not very musically talented, but I do very much so enjoy going to the Underground and listening to what some of talent of Bellingham has to offer. It’s also a great way to meet other Western students by just stopping by and participating in the different events they have to offer.

As college students we all live very busy lives, always trying to get from place to place and never really taking time for ourselves. We all need that time to ourselves even if it’s just thirty minutes before our next class. Or maybe you want something fun to do on campus during the week. I recommend the Underground Coffee House if you’re trying to accomplish any of those things. My favorite thing to do after a long week is grab a cup of coffee and sit by the window and just remember how blessed I am to live in such a beautiful place. If I could give the Underground a rating I would give it 5 out of 5 stars.
