It’s been an incredible journey, but today we embark on a new chapter. RideScout and GlobeSherpa have merged to become moovel North America. We’re not fancy though, you can simply refer to us as moovel.

At moovel, we believe that mobility is an ecosystem; a group of interconnected transportation modes that form the fabric of our cities and enable us to interact with the urban environment around us. The need for a well functioning mobility ecosystem has never been higher, with urban population projected to grow approximately 1.84% per year between 2015 and 2020. This is in addition to the already demanding needs of public transportation riders who in 2014 took over 10.8 billion trips on public transportation, the highest annual ridership number in 58 years.

moovel’s solutions will increasingly organize all transportation information and booking/payment options into one connected experience for transportation providers, app companies, and consumers through our two complementary products, moovel transit and RideTap. moovel transit, ushers in the future of transportation, bringing every transit provider and millions of riders into the ecosystem of modern, urban mobility. RideTap, our SDK that allows any app to leverage a network of current and future transportation partners in one easy integration, is the evolution of the former RideScout app.

Public transit is the foundational core of this mobility ecosystem and the products we build aim to improve your interaction with bus, rail, streetcars, and more. It’s more evident than ever that transportation is no longer just a question of options, but of convenience and ease of use. Check out this video that talks more about our moovel transit mobile ticketing technology for public transportation agencies:

Today’s announcement is the result of a long journey since our former company, RideScout, was founded. RideScout began as a small mobile app startup at 1776 in Washington, D.C., then quickly expanded its offerings from five to 69 cities across the U.S and Canada. After an acquisition by moovel in September 2014, RideScout set up shop in Austin and we continued to improve our app aimed at aggregating all of your ground transportation options in one view, while also working with local leaders to combat traffic.

Less than a year later, RideScout linked up with GlobeSherpa, a startup in Portland, Oregon that quickly emerged as the market leader for mobile ticketing for public transit in the U.S. In June 2015, RideScout acquired GlobeSherpa, and GlobeSherpa grew to 16 transit agency clients in 11 U.S. cities. With their white-labeled mobile ticketing apps, thousands of people can effortlessly purchase transit fare with their mobile phone to quickly and easily get to their favorite faces and places.

As a part of the Daimler AG family, we’re ready to move forward in this ever expanding mobility ecosystem. Daimler, the maker of Mercedes Benz, actually invented the automobile in 1886. Daimler has evolved considerably since then, and is now on a global mission to find solutions for the disconnected and ever-changing state of urban transportation — that is why they founded moovel.

The bottom line is, we’re not anti-car, we’re anti-system — aiming to disrupt the “system” that keeps people stuck in traffic with limited options. As moovel, we are creating a future for urban mobility and we hope you’re ready for the ride.
