Criteria to Evaluate the Credibility of WWW Resources
It’s amazing how much one does not know or even think about a subject until assigned a homework assignment to reflect on it. This article was eye-opening to the importance of credibility of WWW Resources.
Some things that are important to recognize in a credibly web source are pieces of evidence proving the authors qualifications and credentials to be speaking about the specific subject. This is a pretty obvious observation we should always look for. One that might not always come to mind, is to recognize if the author is biased. Unless you don’t want to read things by people with differing view than yourself, it is important to know you are reading truth through unbiased eyes. It is important to check if the article is current. If you’re searching for current events, what’s the point of reading a daily news article from 6 years ago? Another point I found interesting was that the information should have a complete lists of works cited. I have been told to cite my work for as long as I can remember, but not I see the importance of it to maintain credibility, and now I just might.
It was also incredibly interesting to learn about and decipher the differences between various forms of web pages.
