Thanks, Seth. I’ll just add two points:

  1. Lynda.com is a library of 4000+ courses. Your comment would be akin to saying “Barnes & Noble seems to have only novels” — and while it’s true that some of our courses (i.e. especially those with “Fundamentals” or “Essentials” in its title) fit a prescribed format, so many of our courses are specialized, offering various interactive components or otherwise. We never downplay an instructor’s ability to connect on an emotional level. Ensuring an instructor’s voice and passion are transferred to the viewer is part of what we do.
  2. I’ve participated in one of your Leadership workshops and enjoyed it immensely. But I still needed to enroll and participate. I did it because I wanted to — because I relished the challenge. If I’m motivated to seek change, either in my own life, that of my organization, or the world, I can use any resource to accomplish that. That can come from an online course, a book, a YouTube clip, a comment from my boss, my mom, or my teacher… or something I see when walking in the park or the riding the subway.

You’ve identified the issue here well… Carol Dweck outlines it in her awesome book Mindset. The issue is not the mode of education (online or otherwise). Rather, it’s our mindset. If we decide we want to make a difference, we will. And we’ll use ANY resource we can to do that.
