Murder of Crows

Murder of Crows

I remember it clearly
When they gave us the news
That you hadn’t much longer to live.

With trembling hands
We re-lit the flame

and we bowed our heads

to weep

Softly

we sang you

to your sleep
As our hearts cried,

“Murder! Murder!”

Murder of Crows, they called us
When we gathered gladly
In the streets.

We walked down

the carpet red
To lay arms and crowns

at the feet of love’s altar

Gave all there was to give

to phantoms that no longer sit

at love’s throne.

Our sacrifices were a murder.

Murder.

Murder of crows, they called us

When we gathered madly
In the streets.

Veiled in sorrow

we left the crimson shores
Midnight blue darkness and water

urging us on to a shore

we knew we might never

embark upon.

6 swords lay guard

and we had to protect the children
Floating

we became love’s refugees
Fleeing from war

and murder.

Murder.

Murder of Crows, they called us

when we screamed madly

in the streets –

“Murderers! Murderers!”

Murder of Crows, they called us

when we gathered sadly

in the streets.
