I believe it is possible to run the prisons of this country in a more humane way using the existing budget we have to day. The issue isn’t money, its about eliminating the waste.

We can save by putting less people in prison in the first place. You already stated we have too many people in prison. Remove the people that don’t need to be there, you save money for services for the people that should be there.

I believe the problem has been systemic because it isn’t just the prison system that is flawed, but also the criminal justice system as well needs reforms. They are interconnected, and yet you don’t have anyone successfully reforming both institutions at the same time well.

My point was for profit prisons are the root cause of the issue, and they could play a role in the solution if properly regulated.
