We have politicians telling us garbage all the time. It is still our fault when we listen to it. We are still personally responsible for the decisions we make. Everyone makes a choice to leave within their means or not, even if loans and credit are easily available.
I agree that our spending power remaining the same is an illusion that is sustained from robbing from our future and deferring spending on infrastructure, etc. My point was though that the issue far predates Reagan, and Reagan had little to do with the current mistakes of globalization as we see them today.
The issues caused by globalization and technological disruption are complex and over simplifying them by demonizing one president, one party, or one ideology doesn’t contribute to understanding or a solution. It is just venting frustration.
Most complex problems allow for more than one solution.
