My news rules are similar to my food rules (for me and my family) (1) Food: Stay away from the sugary, empty calorie snacks. News: Stay away from daily news, especially on TV — it’s often just noise. It’s ok every once and awhile to indulge but try to get news from weekly or monthly news sources where there is a clearer signal from the noise — especially from written sources where you can chew slowly. (2) Food: Diversify your diet. Eat foods that give the proper balance of macros (carbs, fats, proteins) and wide ranging micronutrients. Eat colorfully. Don’t be afraid to try new and different foods from different cultures or regions. Eat local from sources you trust. News: Try to get news from a variety of sources, balancing various view points. Understand perspectives at the international, national, and local level. Obtain news from trustworthy sources. (3) Food: Eat for short-term performance and for long-term health. News: Consume news to understand the world around you today and to develop a deeper understanding of how the world works so that you can make smarter long-term decisions.
