Thank you, Karen, and I think you are spot on with this observation. This is what I am trying to get to with this idea of being “haunted” by a story. I, too, want to “capture” the thing, but it won’t hold still. That struggle is, I think, the dialogue, the conversation you are talking about.

I’ve told this story about Lydia and written about her probably 50 times. Each time she helps me understand something new. But she still won’t hold still. I hope she never does.
