Our Next Adventure: New Owners of the Michigan Language Center

When we got married in 2009, we dreamed that we would one day be able to work together — not just on a weekend project — but on something big. Something entrepreneurial. Something extremely impactful.
8 years and 2 kids later, the time has come. We are the proud new owners of the Michigan Language Center (MLC).
MLC was founded in 1978 by Mr. Ira Fisher and Ms. Susan Hawley, two amazing educators who built a place for international students and professionals to learn English. In doing so, they also created a family-like community where students experience American culture together (and of course, Ann Arbor). (Note: We are also excited that Mr. Ira Fisher has agreed to stay on as Executive Director!)

MLC students come from over 35 different countries, and the school has an alumni base of over 50,000 students. It is also authorized to issue the Form I-20, which enables overseas students to apply for a student visa to the United States.
When presented with this opportunity, it was a no-brainer for us to jump in, as it perfectly aligns with our family values and life goals. MLC intersects all of our passions: education, community building, empowerment, and global impact. It also continues our investment in the city we call home — Ann Arbor, Michigan. And there’s a bit of nostalgia: Julie worked at MLC as the Office Manager after she graduated from the University of Michigan!
We are really excited to roll up our sleeves every day with the dedicated instructors and staff who have poured their hearts and souls into MLC for so long. They are phenomenal people and we hope to build upon the strong foundation that they have created. We are fired up for the future and will be making significant investments to enhance the student experience, build deeper community and corporate relationships, and engage our active and growing alumni base.

If you’re in Ann Arbor any time soon, please stop by (715 E. Huron Street). And if you think there are ways to work together, please let us know. You can reach us at our new email addresses: moses.lee@englishclasses.com or julie.lee@englishclasses.com.
