DappRadar Data Suggests that in $1.3B Ecosystem, Decentraland Has 38 Daily Active Users!
In $1.3B Ecosystem, Decentraland Has near 38 Daily Active Users.
Why is that? Why is the most famous (crypto) Metaverse doesn’t get attention anymore?
Let us tell you why.
Because it doesn't solve the daily problems of people.
You don’t use Decentraland to have an online meeting.
You don’t use Decentraland to exhibit your art.
You don’t use Decentraland to sell your products.
You don’t use Decentraland to teach your community.
It’s too big that you get lost. It’s not private. It’s not managed according to your needs.
It’s for the rich that most famous NFT artists, Sotheby’s or Dolce Gabbana list their stuff to show off.
Worst of all, you can’t create your space for free. You have to buy expensive LAND with MANA to create anything.
All the $1.3B Decentraland actually does is to hold small community events and gatherings from time to time. Everything else is a show. This is why few people care about it.
This is actually the same story with Meta’s Metaverse that almost made the whole Facebook (Meta) bankrupt. It is the same story for Microsoft’s Metaverse that never worked. It is the same story with other Metaverses such as Sandbox that took away the land investments of famous rappers and brands.
There is only one conclusion that we come to.
Epic-scale Metaverse don’t work.
The web has never been about large virtual worlds that people get lost in “immersive reality”, but they try to create epic-scale 3D worlds that we get lost and have to teleport everywhere — such as Decentraland, Horizon Worlds and Sandbox.
Worst of all — the web and crypto have never been about serving the rich, but Decentraland and its analogs only enable rich people to create their 3D environments through the inflated digital land. Plus, they encourage the use of expensive VR headsets that has only 2% market share even in gaming.
The web was for a purpose, and it consisted of single web pages for a single purpose.
The web was to reach the information that a student needs. It was to sell ordinary stuff and to buy them cheaper. It was to keep the connection with your friends. It was to find your next wife.
The web gave people freedom. Anyone could join the network and quickly create content. If the web was too difficult to create content for, it would have never worked.
Conversely, if the web was limited to plain text files, it would have never had the reach it did. If the Web didn’t include rich multimedia, games, porn, torrents, social media, and everything else interesting; it wouldn’t have led to an explosion of knowledge-sharing, creative expression, and innovation.
If Metaverse is ever going to succeed, it has to be built upon the succeeding Web. Encompassing Web 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0.
Spatial does this, in their own way. We do it, in our own way.
Sincerely
Motif Team
