“A deaf artist…doing sound art? What do you mean? Wait, actually, that seems mind-boggling. How does it work, exactly?”

Cue a standing ovation for Christine Sun Kim — who brought a whole new true meaning to being a sound artist. Who else would have ever thought to use the medium of sound in their artwork?

Christine made art in various visual representation of sound letters, given inspiring presentations, signed American Sign Language in dozens of interviews. By sending out a powerful message that sound doesn’t have to be known solely through the ears — it can be felt, seen and experienced as an idea,… this is amazing.

One of my personal favorite parts of her presnetation in the TED talk was when she drew a visual represnetation for the verb tense — future. The art of lines get further away, altered and moved by the space that we give them.

Check out many more examples here on her Ted Talk through this link: https://www.ted.com/talks/christine_sun_kim_the_enchanting_music_of_sign_language#t-390595

Her art is currently blown-up onto a large billboard in New York by the Whitney Museum of American Art. Go and take a photo, then share it on your social media!

With no doubts, she’s proudly reppin’ the deaf community and she’s surely going places. We’re all one big, proud deaf community for all of the endeveaours she has accomplished! Such an inspiring role model. #deaftalent
