John Horgan Was Right

--

In 1993, in his book “The End of Science”, John Horgan made gentle fun of many sciences, and of fundamental physics and cosmology in particular. Today, over thirty years later, we have to conclude: no effect beyond general relativity or beyond the standard model with massive neutrinos has been found. Despite a huge effort, here has been no surprise and no unexpected discovery in fundamental physics since 1973. Horgan correctly predicted this outcome and called it “the end of physics”. (He meant “the end of fundamental physics”.) When his book appeared, many researchers in fundamental physics were offended or angry. They feared for their dreams. But Horgan was right.

Horgan also made gentle fun of the people chasing a final theory. He called it “The Answer”. In his interviews with famous physicists, he encountered a mixture of pessimism and false hopes about the quest.

But none of his interview partners deduced or imagined the only logical consequence: there might be a final theory of fundamental physics — a unified description motion — that contains both general relativity and the standard model with massive neutrinos — but nothing else.

The strand tangle model does exactly this. It deduces the two beautiful theories from a single fundamental principle and predicts, at the same time, the lack of deviations. The strand tangle model deduces the three generations of elementary matter particles, and predicts the lack of additional ones. The strand tangle model deduces the three gauge interactions, and predicts the lack of additional ones. The strand tangle model deduces the three dimensions of space, and predicts the lack of additional ones.

In simple words, the strand tangle model is unified and predicts that it is unique. The claim is explained, step by step and in simple language, in this simple text. In the loud world of theoretical physics that is filled with screaming researchers, the strand tangle model is just a whisper. The strand tangle model brings quiet delight to fundamental physics. In particular, the strand tangle model agrees with all observations ever made. Enjoy it.
