Getting active can help you find your ‘feel good’

We know we should do it and do it as often as we can but we’ll often find any excuse not to exercise. Have you ever used any of the following as a reason?
- I’m too busy
- I’m too tired
- I’ve got more important things to do
- It’s too hot/cold
- It’s too late to go out
- It’s boring
- I hate gyms/running/swimming
These excuses can often be a mask for something that goes a lot deeper. If we’re feeling low, lacking self confidence, anxious about body image, concerned about making a show of ourselves or just frankly demotivated, then finding inspiration to get out and get active can be an almighty uphill struggle.
As someone who has experienced those feelings, I was searching for something that was going to make me feel happy and give me purpose. After 30+ years of aerobics classes, failed gym membership, intermittent attempts at regular swimming and occasional bike rides, I have finally found my happiness in dancing and Zumba.

The Motivate Me page is here to inspire other women, real women and yes probably of a certain age, to get out there and get moving: find some form of exercise which fires you up and leaves you wanting more.
The physical benefits of being active are well recorded and the government targets for improving the health of the nation are reported regularly. But do you know of all the other fantastic benefits of building some kind of daily exercise into our lives?
- Exercise releases endorphins, the ‘feel good’ hormone in the body: we feel happier, positive and less anxious.
- Exercising with a friend, in a team or at a class really helps with social interaction and even forming new friendships.
- Enjoying physical activity can help with living life in the moment, being mindful to our own needs and enjoying what we are doing in the present rather than worrying about the past or the future.
Getting active in your local area
If you are looking to be inspired into getting your body moving then Motivate Me will give you information about classes, groups and fitness events in and around Hinckley, Market Bosworth and south Leicestershire. There will be interviews with local fitness instructors who will encourage you with their suggestions and invitations to give their sessions a go. There’ll also be lots of advice and tips on looking after your emotional well being and finding your ‘feel good’.

Sharing stories and learning from each other will also be a focus, as Motivate Me aims to bring local women together in an online community where we support and encourage each other. Being over 40, especially as a woman, can start to bring many more challenges than we expected. Facing them with a little help from our friends can make life just that bit easier.
So let Motivate Me motivate you to get active, get fitter, get healthier and find the happiness in you. Follow me on
