For the love of Kintsugi

Kintsugi remains a fitting metaphor for life & also works as a liturgy for a beautiful dinner.

„There is a crack in everything – that’s how the light gets in.“ – Leonard Cohen

The „Art of Kintsugi“ has been the topic of discussion in a lot of philosophical articles and essays for many years now. We have therefore made a short movie about the art of transformation carried across by the idea of brokenness and restoration.

We traveled to Kyoto and Tokyo to visit two masters of the ancient art of Kintsugi. What most articles and even our film miss out is the fact about the duration of the process. In the process of restoring broken ceramics, there are a lot of phases where literally nothing happens, where you just have to wait it out. A time to rest and to catch a breath. In other words, this phase is heavily characterised by endurance and patience. This becomes a mindful process as well, if one truly takes one’s time to do it properly.

That´s why we use aspects of it for a beautiful dinner at the House of Beautiful Business in November at the beautiful Gardens of Ajuda. And we will continue to offer retreats and learning communities around the topic of personal transformation, search-inside-yourself and mindfulness.
