Taking Back Control: Here’s How to Dodge Facebook’s Recent Ban on Link Preview Editing (for now)
Last month, Facebook announced that in an effort to “stop the spread of misinformation and false news” on their platform, they were going to disallow link preview editing. This means businesses are now stuck with whatever images Facebook chooses either by default or by “open graph tags” which developers can use to tell Facebook which image to use.
Besides being a baby-out-with-the-bathwater solution, not being able to change this image creates numerous problems for businesses since they’e no longer able to:
- A-B test ads using different visuals
- Tailor visuals for specific audiences
- Select an alternate image which doesn’t violate Facebook’s 20% text rule (by the way, you can always check that here)
In any case, the good news is there’s a way around it, and it’s called Buffer. Since Buffer uses the Facebook API to post on your behalf, you can simply change not only the preview image, but the title and caption as well.
