Time to Celebrate — Local Restaraunt’s Anniversary

A local business anniversary is worth celebrating, especially if the media is given an event to cover. To help the owners, I would pitch journalists why the story is unique. The event would be near the 10 year anniversary, but I would pair it with a Hispanic holiday for an angle in step with the food they serve. If no holidays were close to the anniversary, I would recommend they plan their event close to a local holiday or community event.

Having proximity or relevance associated with the event will allow the owners to use the publicity and awareness of the larger events to help people recall their local anniversary celebration. Ideally, the event would be large and include winnable giveaways, $1 burritos, or a tortilla tower. Anything that will resonate with their business and stand out. To add quality to the local spin, I would recommend the restaurant could partner with a local charity to donate proceeds or generate awareness, which would spark trust and show the business cares for the community (in addition to having a great party or discounts or special food to celebrate).

The selfless act of including a not-for-profit organization can be a classy way to say “we’re good people” and the news coverage about the anniversary would attract new business. To gain more coverage, the owners should invite the city’s chamber of commerce to garner more attention.

It would be paramount to have ample options for photographs, and so the interior of the restaurant should be full of color, greenery and character. A short photo op with the city mayor, local mascot and police chief eating the first tacos of the celebration could garner major attention as well by playing off local celebrity and being comical.

The options are endless — the three things to consider is the size of the town, the budget for the event, and creating a narrative or theme for the owners. It is always better to do a few things well than many things poorly, so assisting them to narrow down feasible and interesting ways to spread the word about their successful 10 years.
