The end of 2022 is coming. We are moving towards another new year. December is the month of social gatherings and rich festive foods. This is the month of the most-awaited holiday to spend time with family and friends. With the thrilling excitement of food and parties, you have to keep an eye on your blood pressure and weight as nobody likes to feel guilty when the party mood is over.

4 ways of adopting healthy eating patterns during holidays :

Try to focus on portion control and mindful eating :

During family dinners and party spreads people often overeat because of tempting food choices. This is the best time to practice portion control. For example, if 3 different cakes are offered at a party and you want to taste all three, take a tiny slice of each. This way you can enjoy 3 different cakes at a time without overeating them.

Big gatherings are also a place to practice mindful eating. Focus on eating slowly and pause to talk and socialize. This way your body gets time to sense what you’ve eaten and gives the signal to the brain that you are full.

Rely on plant-based fruits :

The holidays are an ideal scope to begin a plant-based diet that is rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. You can begin adopting a plant-based diet through the following ways.

  1. Add more salads: During holiday parties and family, meals try to keep a side salad.
  2. Start one vegetarian day a week: Once a week eats fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for the entire day.
  3. Find out new recipes: Try to discover new recipes that use ingredients you like and that require minimal cooking skills.

Add more spices to your diet :

There are a lot of spice mixes available that you can use on all kinds of meals from poultry to soups to side dishes. During the holidays you can experiment to create your own spice mix. Many spices contain antioxidants, flavonoids, and other beneficial compounds that are required for mood and inflammation regulation.

Check on Alcohol Intake :

During the holiday alcohol consumption increases. You can switch to sparkling water or a cocktail made of one-third fruit juice and two-thirds sparkling water after one or two drinks. It can help keep you from drinking too much.

Conclusion :

December is the month when you set your goals and plans for the upcoming new year. This is the time to recall what you gained, and what you lost throughout the year. Every year teaches us new things.
