The working titles of both Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars compare both films to a delicious dessert.

Per The Cosmic Circus, The Kang Dynasty is being internally referred to as Apple Pie 1 while its direct sequel has earned the moniker Apple Pie 2, explicitly linking both projects. While it’s currently unknown why Marvel Studios elected to use their titles, fans have been hard at work trying to discern the meaning of the codenames. While it’s occasionally true that films often use working titles with a hint at what the film could entail, it’s speculated that the fifth and sixth Avengers movies have opted to instead obscure any possible details that could be gleaned from their temporary titles.

Beyond the working titles, next to nothing is known about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next Avengers movies. Marvel Studios has confirmed that both will effectively tie up what has been dubbed The Multiverse Saga, pitting the powerful Kang the Conqueror against the galaxy’s superheroes. Writer Jeff Loveness, who also penned Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, has suggested that The Kang Dynasty will kill off plenty of characters as it sets the stage for a multiversal battle in Avengers: Secret Wars. Further details on the narrative are largely still unknown but rumors have swirled that Doctor Strange will assume the role of an antagonist and Deadpool 3 will have a major impact on the universe clash that is expected to unfold.

Avengers Assemble?

As for who will feature in the fifth and sixth Avengers movies, the casts have yet to be finalized. While many suspect Jonathan Majors will reprise his role as Kang, given the films’ focus, the supporting cast is still largely unknown. Simu Liu, the breakout star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has addressed claims that he’ll be a central focus, and admitted that even he doesn’t fully know whether his character will appear. “Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be in it too. Beyond that, I really don’t know, and I don’t want to know before it’s absolutely ready,” the actor said. “If there’s anything I’ve learned in this industry, especially with Marvel, it’s that things are changing, always in flux, and you really can’t be sure that something is going to happen until you’re on set and you’re about to do the scene.”

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty hits theaters on May 1, 2026, while Secret Wars will arrive on May 7, 2027.
