One of Netflix’s biggest draws at the moment is teen rom-coms. In the case of Never Have I Ever, the streamer has a show that’s drawn big numbers and received great reviews. The series tells the story of Devi, whose family migrated from India only for tragedy to follow and leave the teen emotionally scarred.

After three seasons, life in Los Angeles finally seemed to settle down for Devi and her friends as they enter senior year. However, as the trailer for the fourth and final season of Never Have I Ever reveals, the teens are going to once more have a lot to deal with as they navigate the game of young love.

Never Have I Ever Gives Devi a New Crush

With Devi entering her senior year, she wants to ensure she achieves the best grades possible to get into Princeton. It’s been her lifelong dream and something she’s feuded with Ben over, adamant she deserves to be valedictorian. Interestingly, the clip shows Devi developing a crush on Ethan (played by Michael Cimino), a new entry into the series. It seems that they will start a relationship, although it’s uncertain how serious it’ll be.

Devi turned down a chance to spend her last year in a boarding school in Colorado. She wanted to focus on maturing around people she loves. But seeing as she’s only just showing a sense of responsibility, Ethan as a distraction could throw her off. Fans are hoping she and Ethan treat each other right, although the clip suggests he’s a potentially bad influence. Devi has to make the right decision because she wouldn’t want to end up regretting ducking the Colorado school, which would have made her Princeton ambitions easier.

Never Have I Ever Can Evolve Paxton’s Role

Paxton was the older boy Devi was in love with all her life. However, they had compatibility issues, plus the age gap seemed insurmountable. The Daxton story did end on a good note, though, after Paxton went off to college. However, the trailer has him visiting again. It’s uncertain how long he’ll be back at Sherman Oaks High, but there’s a possibility they’ll become what the show never really had them as: friends.

There’s the expected tension, but Paxton can offer her advice due to his extensive dating experience. They have a great rapport on things outside of romance, plus Devi did inspire him to be a better student. It’d be a great way of making him something more than just eye candy, which Paxton has said he doesn’t want to be.

Never Have I Ever Gives Ben a Big Dilemma

Ben and Devi slept together to end Season 3, but the new trailer shows them in a few awkward situations. It’s clear he loves her, but the series has always been murky if she’s truly over Paxton, and if she genuinely loves Ben. She has used Ben before for emotional comfort, which caused Ben to move on to Aneesa. Now, he’s dating fellow artist Margot, who is a much better fit.

Devi’s angry over this, so Season 4 will leave Ben with a big choice. Devi’s someone he’s loved for some time, but their bond has gotten toxic. With Margot, there’s less baggage. Ben also has to improve his grades to get into Princeton, so he’d want something calmer. Fans are hoping he doesn’t regress and date someone while still crushing on Devi. This broke up him and Aneesa last season in an arc that was very unfair and cruel to her.

Never Have I Ever Teases Drama for Eleanor

Eleanor, one of Devi’s best friends, has been dating Paxton’s buddy, Trent. However, the clip shows them in tense situations, indicating that maybe long distances might not be working. Outside of seeking the perfect partner, Eleanor has always been distracted. She had issues with her mother who abandoned her as a kid, and she’s placed a lot of pressure on herself to make it as an actor in Hollywood.

Thus, if Trent is continuing some of his wild ways from high school, they may call it quits. The show does deserve to give Eleanor a bit more depth, as it just rushed over her mom’s story. This would be a great opportunity to also have Fabiola be there for Eleanor. Fabiola hasn’t had much in the plot after coming out, and the trailer suggests Fabiola and Addison are doing well together. This paves the way for Fabiola to be that supporting anchor while keeping Devi free to deal with her own drama.

Never Have I Ever Hints at a Healthy Family

The Vishwakumar banter at home has always been pretty testy. Nalini and Devi were constantly fighting after Mohan’s death, but Season 3 suggested they repaired things when Devi axed the Colorado move. It was a profound way of getting over the South Asian family dynamic where Nalini was struggling with her daughter leaving the nest. This provides an opportunity to finally showcase a healthy love story with Nalini and Devi.

It’ll be more of a test for Nalini, though, who does go overboard with her sense of control. Still, more bonding time looms, with the trailer showing them engaged in more of their cultural festivities and happy at last. Given Kamala (Devi’s cousin) has been in a relationship with Devi’s teacher, Manish (played by Utkarsh Ambudkar), a wedding may even be on the horizon. This would help give the clan an arc of light and positivity, affirming they are putting all the grief and trauma surrounding Mohan’s sudden death to bed. Ultimately, it’d cap their story perfectly and give them an ideal sendoff as Devi preps to leave LA.
