MyMark is an ambitious project. It aims at reducing diseases like cancer by warning users before they happen, using at-home blood tests and an analysis mobile app. Its COO Yannick Namia gave us insights on how to build an innovative health service.

What does your product team look like?

The founding team worked on a first version of the product. Strava’s ex CMO then joined us to make it better. We’re also planning to hire more people to work on the UX part.

Are you working with medical experts?

Yes, a lot! We have 2 in-house doctors that write our recommandations. On top of that, 3 other physicians validate everything we do. We also work with labs for our tests, and have a FDA lawyer that makes sure everything we do is legal.

How do you get insights from your users?

  • We gathered 1000 form answers online to know more about what people expect from predictive medecine.
  • We tested our MVP with 50 users. I met or called every tester after they did the test.
  • We also used We Are Bill to do 30+ interviews. They helped us find the right marketing message.

What is the most important principle you follow when designing?

Our service can create strong emotions. We’re going to reveal concerning results to some of our users (kidney disfunction, pre-diabetes, cardio-vascular risks, STDs, for example). We need a lot of empathy and accuracy in our design to be sure we show the right information, and in the right way.

We also have to stay compliant with FDA rules as we’re in the health space, which can be challenging sometimes.

What is the feature you’re the most proud of?

Our overview of levels and organs health. It was challenging to strike a balance between something simple and immediatly understable for our users, and something accurate and certified by doctors.

It seems straighforward to show levels in 3 colors (green, yellow and red), but we have a pretty complex algorithm backed by medecine behind that.

Is there a feature you initially planned but didn’t make?

Not yet as we’re just starting!

What are your 3 favorite wellness apps?

Strava: I use it twice a day, in the morning when I bike and in the afternoon when I swim. It’s a good example of a fun-to-use health app.

Equinox: I go to their gym and their app is great to follow my progress and plan my training sessions.

Uber Eats: I haven’t found any better option to eat! It’s so simple nothing can beat it when I feel lazy.
