Totally agree with this. Years ago, we wrote HTML, CSS, and JS. The stuff worked just as well. I did an exercise to try and correlate (using Archive.org) the relative functionality-to-complexity delta over a 10 year timeframe for some major companies that I work with — you know what, functionality hasn’t *really* changed that much, but the amount of utter crap you need to deliver it has gone up exponentially. Seriously, I reviewed a simple, throwaway site our devs are doing, the first and last thing I looked at were the 862 dependencies in NPM….
