Thanks for writing about this, Mark. As a lifelong Cub fan, I agree the parting with Starlin was certainly bittersweet. I think most of us fans understood the sound reasoning Theo and Jed had for moving Castro, but deep down we will always ask ourselves “What if?”. To be perfectly honest, I think the Cubs front office handled the situation with a lot of sensitivity for Starlin by sending him to the Yankees. Going to a team with a lower payroll would have put more emphasis on his salary and in turn led to more expectations with the fan base. Starlin strikes me as the kind of guy who performs much better when he plays without unnecessary pressure. I’m glad to see he’s thriving.
