CS373 Fall 2019: Mason Prey

What did you do this past week?
This past week, I didn’t do much in terms of SWE and our project. We were mainly waiting for grading to be released, but seeing as it is just now coming out on Saturday night, we will most likely get started on the project soon. I had work with other projects in my virtualization class and registering for classes was a mess as it always is.
What’s in your way?
My team was waiting on grading to be released. The way our pipeline is currently set up, if we push a commit to GitLab, the CI will automatically deploy the changes to our live production so we did not want to interfere with grading at all and we also didn’t want to have a bunch of local, uncommitted code on our desktops as that could cause a lot of merge conflicts.
What will you do next week?
We will start on Phase III of the project. We first need to research different modules that enable us to easily search/sort with all of our models before we write any code. We don’t want to reinvent the wheel on anything we’re doing this week so we need to make sure to do some thorough research. I will also be working on my virtualization project and presenting a speech this week.
What was your experience of SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)
I enjoyed learning about SQL this week. I have used SQL a lot in the past, so it was more of a much-needed refresher for SQL. Although I had never seen the “having” statement before which was pretty interesting to learn about. I feel confident going into the rest of the course with the knowledge I have about SQL already.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
Ninite. If you ever get a new PC or desktop and need to install a bunch of applications, this is a perfect application to install the most popular programs today. You pick the programs you want, it’ll bundle it all up for you, then install each one. Very simple.
