Without proof of work it makes no sense to have more than one node creating/signing blocks.

“Proof of work” is an artificial construct from antiquated architecture concepts such as Bitcoin — there is no need for miners producing proof of work in future distributed ledgers which is what this is.

What you read is basically all that is needed to know about the base level of blockchain, everything else is over-complication.
