My husband and I are mortgage free at 34, though it took us 5 years to get that way. We were lucky in that we had higher paying jobs, so while we did make some sacrifices, we weren’t eating ramen or living in our basement. The amount of freedom and mental well being that comes from knowing nothing short of a complete melt down or catastrophe can take away your house is really amazing and not to be discounted.
