OK, I’ll double up and disagree with this take as well. That remark sounds kinda bad written out but when you watch the clip (or real time as I did), it comes across as a harmless ‘Why does there have to be a loser’ sort of stab at order amongst chaos. If anything, Kimmel is a winner: His Matt Damon bits worked, the monologue had teeth but it didn’t stay chewing the same piece of meat over & over, and at the very end, he seemed to genuinely acknowledge anxiety that he would be held (somehow) responsible for the anarchy. It was on that moment that you saw a true ‘Boy cry Wolf’ scene: a notorious prankster having to try and convince the world that he had no hand in what happened.
