Unpacking the Load of a Leader
Leadership is a very complex subject. It is just not just having titles or commanding people to do your bidding. A True Leader is the greatest servant who just serves from the front. I titled this “Unpacking the Leaders burden.” (I hope it makes sense).
It is so easy to envy successful leaders. We look up to them and think they are mini-gods living a little lower than GOD Himself(that is who we all are). We see them as individuals who we would gladly trade places with on any given day. So it is hard for people who have never led to think leaders don’t face problems. Someone once said
“CEO’s don’t do anything, they just sign documents!”
Funny school of thought. Leaders face problems and they have to make decisions which make or mar the organization. My article is gotten from Rob Jacobs blog on Leadership(http://goo.gl/2xFGzv). However, I want to take a different angle.
As a follower or for anyone who has a boss, I am sure there are 1 million and one ways you feel the organization can be better. So many ways you feel can improve productivity and yet it seems the leaders are blind to it. There are various reasons why leaders turn down ideas. The number one reason is Priority. When our ideas are turned down we see our leader as inconsiderate and stubborn. Maybe your suggestions are very valid but before you make a suggestion try and solve the present headache of your leader. For example, Saul the King had a serious issue. He was tormented by a demon (1 Samuel 16). A person tormented by a demon would be less concerned with a land dispute amongst the Israelite's. Don’t you think so?
For the Saul example, the solution was getting a person who had the anointing from GOD while playing to drive out the demon. It was David that was suggested. Now David played and as he played the demon left Saul.
What is the point I am trying to drive home?
Unpacking the load of a Leader causes a ripple effect.
1. The Leader trusts that person.
2. The leader listens to the advice of that person.
3. The leader sees the person as a friend.
4. The leader delegates responsibilities to that person.
Also, referral from such leader. So many things come out from unpacking the leaders load. Saul was never going to listen to anybody who had land dispute issue when he was tormented. He needed a pain killer and as a follower you need to know the difference between a painkiller and a vitamin. If you feel your leader is not listening to you, try and find out his headache then see if there would be any changes.
Till next time. Have a great Week.
