Utilise Your Hours

I, as you know, am chasing a career in the media/broadcasting industry and as I’m a lover of all things entertainment it is only natural that I want to build up something of my own.
It has taken me several years to settle down on something that I feel worthwhile doing and I have tried and failed plenty of times when it comes to creative ventures. That is what people have to realise when it comes to social media/internet/creative ventures that it takes a while to make something that will really take off and it takes a lot of experimentation to find that, don’t be disheartened when it doesn’t kick off on your first attempt.
I tried YouTube, (Talking to camera) plenty of times and it is only now where I feel as though I am at a place where I can create great content and start up once again, it all boils down to confidence at the end of the day. As I have got practice and grew in confidence behind the mic with How To Kill An Hour, this in turn has transferred in front of the camera, sure it will take some time to improve more but I am a lot better than what I was. Plus it helps being around stellar broadcasters on a weekly basis, their confidence and talent naturally rubs off on you, it won’t be long until I am a great broadcaster. My production skills have vastly improved in the space of a year to eighteen months and I feel as though I have the talent to exceed in this industry in both arms of it. (Production/Presentation)
I tried a couple of podcasts and again, it has taken me a few tries to get there and I feel as though this current venture I am along the right path to create a brand that something I am proud of (alongside my work with How To Kill An Hour) If I feel as though something isn’t working, I bin it. I have a great YouTube channel which is stop start because of budgeting/time and I’d like to go back to it at some point.
Which brings me to the headline of this article, you have 18 hours in a day to get work done. Say you work full time, you work 9–5, an hours commute either way so 8–6, that’s 10 hours, 8 hours remaining, an hour or two at the gym/with partners 6 hours remaining, Give or take several minutes you have roughly 5–6 hours to build up a company/app/podcast/YouTube show and it can be done! Just look at SBTV which was built while Jamal Edwards was still working full time! Going to bed at 2am and getting up at 8am to start work at 9 is do-able. You build up that app, that show, that business in those hours and eventually you will be able to earn from that business and then jack in your job.
I’ve seen it happen a few times with my peers and it will happen to you too! Just got to think about the ways in which you spend your time, you can play Fifa for a few hours or you can play Fifa for 2 and then get to work on the stuff that’s going to earn you a lot of money, make you feel fulfilled in life as you are doing what you want to do in life and actually enjoying going to work. We spend most of our lives working, so why not do it with something you love and earning as much money from it as possible? What’s wrong with that?
Gary Vaynerchuk gets a lot of stick for his motivational talk on line but a lot of it makes sense. Too much saying you’re gonna and not enough doing because you’re afraid to fail. Fail and be proud you failed, because you learned from it and it will only make you better at your craft.
Utilise those hours as you have more in a day than you think and there is a lot of stuff that can be achieved in a day.
