2 things every Human being should know
I’d written a short sort of passage on my facebook page after the events of the last couple of weeks. And whilst I’m not the most prolific of writers, I was irked by the sensation that we’re losing touch on what it means to be a good human being. I mean no harm, and would love to hear your thoughts on the same good or bad.
“Over the last month, I concur that I have been slow, but things haven’t all been rather smooth.
First things first I never got a chance to truly thank the The Piano Man Jazz Club for being such a wonderful venue and for letting me have the performance experience of a lifetime! As well as the folks at Bunmanchi for bringing together a wonderful audience!
The very next day however, my mother got into a car accident. With the other car having forcefully introduced itself to the backside of my mother tank of an Indica, I prayed to god and thanked the stars that no party was seriously injured. (My mother is absolutely fine, she still berates me everyday it’s ok, and before you ask, not a scratch on her) I don’t want to make this a post about how the system is screwed or how the cops harass victims and how one’s sense of responsibility to own up and be honest doesn’t seem to be an Indian trait.
All I’d like to tell you is that you should never take anything for granted. There are many moments where the boulder that chases you from behind slowly shoves you. Get yourself insured, your property, etc. Save some money (A skill that evades me constantly) for emergencies, don’t go around asking for help, get off your ass and protect those closest to you. (Research is best)
We all have priorities in our lives, but don’t forget the ones who gave up everything and put us first. Your family, your parents. Your career should always help you stand on your own, but should also let you give back. It sucks that it’s only during an emergency that one learns of how to take control of things.
I know what I say doesn’t make much sense, but two things:
1. Be grateful:
We’re the lucky few that have a chance to choose. Greed envelopes even the strongest of souls, but you must realise that we’re lucky to just be. You don’t have to thank god, but a lot of people live with a lot less and live happily. Just saying. You’re alive god dammit!
2. And don’t take anything, and I mean anything for granted:
I don’t mean to sound like a momma’s boy, but my mother means to world to me. She bore the weight of being both a mother and father to 2 kids 8 years ago, and she’s the strongest woman I know.
But we’re not invincible. We all want to watch each other grow old, as much as you’d hate to admit it. A simple collision of cars on the road could have had far worse consequences, and it puts many things into perspective. So for what it’s worth, take a step back, look at your life and wonder how hard it’s been to piece it together. And how easily it can fall apart. Work hard, be a good human being, tell people you love them (I love you guys, and you too mom), Buy groceries sometimes jeez, you pay bills, maintain yourself. And guys, I hug people normally, but because I sweat a lot after a show I shake hands, but hug people, just hug the eff out of people.
Thank you!”
