Tunu’s Gift: A Visual Guide to Healthy Periods

Tunu’s Gift is a children’s picture book that aims to deliver informative and entertaining content on menstruation through animation.

Part of a sequel called Tunu & Friends, Tunu’s Gift is the introductory module to a visual guide to a healthy reproductive lifestyle.

Tunu’s Gift is a textual & visual step to shattering the myths and misunderstandings surrounding menstruation for young African pre-teens, ages 8–13. This picture book purposes to present information about menstruation in a way that is not only easy to understand but also sensitive towards the taboo nature of the subject.

With guidance from her big sister Neema, Tunu gains an understanding of the physiological changes occurring within her body. Discussion questions follow at the end of the story to facilitate communication between a young girl and her parent or guardian about this special moment in her life.

Tunu’s Gift focuses exclusively on menstruation so that it is given the honor and celebration it so deserves. The menstrual cycle is recognised as a gift and a rite of passage toward mature development.

This children’s picture book is researched and written by MremboSafi.
