The Road to ISMRM Singapore 2016: The ArtScience Museum

By far one of the most interesting buildings in Singapore is the ArtScience Museum. It’s shaped like a bright white lotus flower and somehow manages to outshine the Maria Bay Sands Hotel right next door.

The exhibits inside the ArtScience Museum are pretty much what you’d guess: a mix of art and science. While we were there, we saw an amazing exhibition of fish and other creatures from the depths of the ocean. It was truly other worldly! Lots of fish with really big eyes!

We also saw a fantastic round table tennis setup. I think that you could easily have 6 pairs of players playing a game in this room! It was definitely a memorable place. This room (and several others like this) are in the the white “petal” parts of the building.

At the uppermost level we got to see an exhibition from the School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA). This was a really forward-looking interactive art exhibit. We got to give Roberta Kravitz her first experience in a VR headset. I think she had a good time, but the exhibit involved going high up in a virtual building… we maybe should have started her with virtual puppies, but what’s done is done…

The ArtScience Museum is about a 15 minute walk from the SunTec Convention Center where we will be in just a few short weeks. I hope that you can take some time to really enjoy the exhibits offered there!

As always, keep an eye on the ISMRM homepage where you’ll find the most up to date information on the upcoming meeting. I can’t wait to see you all in Singapore!

PS: Here are two images just to give you an idea of the view from the Marina Bay Sands Hotel since I don’t think I’ll write anything more about that building. It’s a truly amazing place though!

If you’ve read this far, I can give you some insight as to where we’ll be during the week. The convention center is the white, multi-faceted building beyond the football/soccer stadium seats. The closing party will be in the space from just to the left of the stadium almost all the way down to the two dome-shaped buildings. It should be a great spot with a view of downtown, the ArtScience Museum and the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, where this photo was taken. If you look at the nighttime shot at the top of this post, you can get an idea of the view. I look forward to seeing you there!
