A Poem for the Woman in the Water

i am always surprised to see you here
not sure who i expect to see instead

yet there you are
the scars line up
the teeth check out

this is where I stabbed my palm
an accidental mark made of me

nothing that I can remember bleeding has ever been wrong, really

so you

must be we

but where could you be, see

it feels like i’ve really just been a cat
living in that maze
behind these windows
hawking all these lies that I am a

real person in this
real body living in that
real world out…
