@CraigNewmark … thanks for your comment. Trust and ethics are at the center of the dysfunction that is driving journalism’s lack of value to the most vulnerable populations. I am planning a follow-up essay in this series addressing those topics, but perhaps I should have spent some time highlighting the issue in this one. Bottom line — journalism is one of the least-trusted and -respect careers in the nation, second from the bottom after being a member of Congress. And the journalism sector as a whole is not successfully addressing the issue … it’s a challenging topic that requires deep self-reflection by journalists, and confrontation with some of the Fourth Estate’s dearly held assumptions about itself.
