Final Post!

As I reflect on the assigned posts throughout the course of this class, I believe that the research I did on homework has opened my eyes the most. I am still a very firm believer in students having homework, as I wasn’t able to find a single research based argument for there being no homework for students. I don’t feel like “feelings” about homework is enough to get rid of it completely, yet I feel that after doing the research, finding more meaningful and purposeful homework assignments should be the idea of every teacher.

Can we as teachers spend as much time thinking about homework, as we do about planning our weeks? I’ll be the first to admit that I plan my lessons far more meticulously than I do when it comes to homework. I’m guilty of often time simply assigning whatever we didn’t get to, and calling it good. I’ve made a challenge for myself to be as purposeful with the homework that I’m sending home, as I am with my planning. I look forward to keeping myself focused on the homework not causing stress, but being a tool to help develop a skill for all of my students.
