Yes love is love but also, rights are rights

It’s an interesting idea to frame equality through a lens of human emotion. It says “because love is universal then rights should be as well.” What if I’m not in love? Does that mean I shouldn’t get rights?

There is a tendency to over complicate basic ideas like equal rights. The universality of love is immaterial to a debate about whether people deserve equality.

By reducing basic human rights to an emotion we diminish the value of those rights.

By all means use stories and “tug at your heartstrings” examples to make your case but never lose sight of the fundamental principle that rights are rights regardless of how anyone personally feels about them.
