You don’t know everything

You really, really don’t. I know it feels like you do and no doubt you’ve had conversations with friends where you’re like “dude, I could totally run the company better than the CEO.” No, you couldn’t, and that’s an exciting thing. It means you’ve got more to learn and further to grow. It means the next 70 years aren't going to be really, really boring.

Yes you’re a “digital native,” whatever the fuck that means. Yes you’ve definitely got some great ideas. And yes, the place you work doesn’t always make the right decisions. Still, those decisions are informed by a wealth of knowledge and experience that you do not have.

I too thought I knew absolutely everything about progressive politics and campaigning. The realization that you didn’t know everything only comes when you realize you do actually know shit. I’ve worked seven election cycles and it wasn’t until after #7 that I realized I had been totally winging it the first six times and now I actually knew what the fuck I was doing.
