The City of San Diego Data & Analytics Team (DataSD) is looking for a Data Science Program Coordinator!
We don’t have snacks in the office. Or free coffee. Or sleeping pods.
We work in gray cubicles, in a boring office building. We often have to print stuff on paper. And yes, we deal with bureaucracy,.
Yet, after 3 years, I’m still excited to show up to work every day.
Why?
We have amazing, passionate and highly intelligent people that work at every level of the organization to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors and their communities.
We work on really hard problems that need deep subject matter expertise outside of data science. We partner with planners, transportation engineers, paramedics, police officers and firefighters to change how the City of San Diego uses data and technology. When we solve these challenges, we see a real impact on the the city where we live every day.
I’m not going to lie. If you’re looking for an easy job, this is not it. This job is tough. It’s frustrating and extremely challenging. But it’s also extremely rewarding.
So here’s the deal.
If you want to make a difference in a beautiful city with perfect weather, if you want to work with 11,000 awesome people, and if you want to solve really hard problems with really cool data… you also have to learn to appreciate the beauty of a large bureaucracy.
