[Trick]Copying text from a text file without opening it on Windows

Hi and welcome dear geeks to my new small tutorial ,in today’s tutorial i’m going to show you a little handy trick, under Microsoft Windows to help you copy text from a text file, without actually opening it,in fact there are many such times when we are at hurry and want to copy some text from a file ,if you often find yourself in situation like that, then this little trick which Only works under Windows operating system will save you some time ,what we can say time is precious.

To activate this trick you really don’t need to install any software ,the only thing you need to do is to add a registry setting ,after that you will have a copy to clipboard shortcut under the contextual menu when you right click your text file.

So under Windows create a text file with .reg extension ,which is registry file’,open it and add the following lines ,the save and close the file.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\text\shell\clipboard]

@=”Copy to Clipboard”

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\text\shell\clipboard\command]

@=”cmd.exe /c type \”%1\” |clip.exe”

Now you need to add these values to the registry ,which as easy as clicking twice on the reg file and confirm a message which informs you about adding these values to the Windows registry.

To deactivate this trick ,you need to do the same steps with this configuration lines instead.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\text\shell\clipboard]

Thanks stay tuned and see next time for another little trick.
